Why Finish Matters
Wood is durable and repairable, but it needs a protective finish. A good finish prevents water stains, slows movement, and keeps the surface looking clean.
Finish Options
Food Grade Oil
Penetrating protection with a natural look. Reapply as needed. Spot repairs blend easily. Best for tops that see food prep.
Hardwax Oil
Low sheen protection that resists water and common spills. Maintenance is occasional. Great balance of feel and durability.
Polyurethane
High protection film finish. Good for bars and heavy traffic counters. Choose water based for clarity and faster dry times.
Daily Care
Wipe spills promptly, use cutting boards and trivets, clean with mild soap and water, avoid standing water.
Refresh Schedule
Oil monthly at first, then as needed. Hardwax oil every few months depending on use. Polyurethane when the film shows wear or scratches.
